How to Convert an Image

  1. Drop your images into the box above — add as many as you like.
  2. Pick the output format. WebP is the safe modern choice; AVIF squeezes even smaller.
  3. Adjust Quality if you want. Around 80% is usually indistinguishable from the original.
  4. Press Convert all, then download each image or grab them all at once.

Which Format Should I Choose?

  • WebP — typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, supports transparency and animation, and works in every current browser. This is the best default for websites.
  • AVIF — the newest format, often 50% smaller than JPG. Superb compression and HDR support, but encoding is slower and a few older browsers still lack support.
  • JPG — universal compatibility. Best for photographs when you need something that opens absolutely anywhere. No transparency.
  • PNG — lossless with transparency. Ideal for logos, icons and screenshots with sharp text, but much larger for photos.

Why Convert to WebP or AVIF?

Images are usually the heaviest part of a web page. Switching your photos to WebP or AVIF often halves the page weight, which means faster loading, better Core Web Vitals and better search rankings. It also saves mobile data for your visitors and bandwidth on your hosting bill.

If you are optimising a website, converting to WebP is one of the highest-impact changes you can make in a single afternoon.

Lossy vs Lossless

WebP, AVIF and JPG are lossy: they discard detail your eye is unlikely to notice in exchange for a much smaller file. PNG is lossless: nothing is thrown away, so the file is bigger but pixel-perfect. Because lossy compression is applied each time you save, avoid converting the same photo back and forth repeatedly — always convert from the original where you can.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas, so your photos never leave your device and there are no upload limits or queues.

Does converting to PNG make my JPG lossless?

No. Detail already discarded by the original JPG cannot be recovered. Converting to PNG only stops further loss, and usually produces a much bigger file.

Will transparency be kept?

Yes when converting to WebP, AVIF or PNG. Converting to JPG removes transparency, and transparent areas are filled with white because JPG has no alpha channel.

Why is AVIF greyed out or slow?

AVIF encoding must be supported by your browser. Recent Chrome, Edge and Firefox handle it; if your browser cannot encode AVIF the tool tells you and WebP is the next best option. AVIF also takes longer to encode because its compression is more thorough.

Is there a file size or count limit?

Only your device’s memory. Dozens of ordinary photos convert fine; very large images simply take a moment each.
